The Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport closed the first quarter of 2024 and the winter season with growth figures in both the number of flights and passengers.
Specifically, between January and March, 4,520,440 passengers passed through these facilities, who traveled on 32,569 flights, figures that show increases of 21.6% in travelers and 14.3% in operations compared to the same period last year. This progression in traffic responds to the dynamism shown by both national and international traffic.
The vast majority of users counted in the first three months of the year traveled on commercial flights, totaling 4,504,701. Of these, 878,925 traveled on flights originating from or destined for a Spanish city (7.7% more than the same dates in 2023), while 3,625,776 opted for connections abroad (+25.4%).
Regarding international traffic, the markets with the highest demand in absolute terms in the first quarter of 2024 were the British (915,855 passengers) and, at some distance, the German (315,194), Dutch (304,624), Italian (232,519), and French (207,466).
As for the increase in operations, of the 32,569 total aircraft movements handled last month, 31,993 corresponded to commercial connections: 8,034 national (+6.5%) and 23,959 international (+20.9%).
2023 was marked in the history of Malaga Airport by its record figures that managed to surpass all existing records.
The aerodrome closed the year breaking all records, which made the past year the busiest in its history. The total records for 2023 show growths of 21.1% in travelers and 12.2% in operations compared to the previous year and respond to the good performance maintained by both national and foreign traffic.
The Malaga infrastructure bid farewell to 2023 with 22,344,373 passengers and 161,684 flights, figures to which another milestone is added: the highest volume of handled luggage (outbound), surpassing five and a half million checked bags at the facilities (5,521,041). So far, the maximum was recorded in 2019, with 5,385,428 items managed.
The bulk of the counted users moved on commercial flights, totaling 22,286,150. Of them, 4,023,569 traveled from or to a Spanish city (21.1% more than in 2022), while 18,262,581 opted for connections abroad (+21.1%).
Regarding international traffic, the markets with the highest demand in absolute terms were the British (288,407 passengers) and, at some distance, the German (98,564), Dutch (87,531), Italian (79,339), and French (78,253 passengers).
